Think of an American woman marrying into a prominent British family that she and her husband eventually cut off because of toxicity. Most people would think of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry leaving the British Royal family, but this same story also applies to “The New Mrs. Beckham” or Nicola Peltz Beckham, who also seems to be feuding with her in-laws.
The Beckhams are a very prominent English family. David Beckham is known for his rise to fame in the 90s while playing football for Manchester United and England. His wife Victoria also got famous in the 90s but for a very different reason. More people would know her as Posh Spice from the iconic group, The Spice Girls.
The feud became public when Brooklyn, the Beckhams oldest son, dropped six slides on his Instagram story saying his parents were portraying unauthentic relationships and planting stories about him in the media. There are many reasons for the feud, mostly revolving around the wedding. Here is a breakdown of the five main alleged issues.
The first issue at the wedding was that Victoria Beckham supposedly hijacked Brooklyn and Nicola’s first dance, and allegedly was dancing inappropriately with her son.
“In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife, but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,” said Brooklyn Beckham. Fans are calling to “release the tapes” of the first dance.
In the next issue known as “Dressgate,” Brooklyn claims that his parents, more specifically his mother, tried to sabotage Nicolas’ wedding dress. According to the BBC, “Reports at the time suggested that Nicola, now 31, had refused to wear one of Lady Beckham’s designs.” In the end Nicola ended up not wearing her first alleged dress and ended up marrying Brooklyn in a Valentino dress instead.
Third, and perhaps one of the most wild accusations, was when Brooklyn said that right before his wedding, his parents tried to get him to sign the rights away to his own name to prioritize “Brand Beckham” but this has not been confirmed by anyone.
The next issue was Brooklyn and Nicola’s absence from his father’s 50th birthday party. Brooklyn and Nicola had flown out from LA, and allegedly, his father refused quality time with his family despite the many times they tried, causing them to end up staying in their hotel room during the duration of their trip. “He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner,” claimed Brooklyn.
The fifth and final reason for the feud revolves around the family brand. Brooklyn Beckham said that his family places a very high value on “public promotion and endorsements above all else.” He has claimed that his family has carefully crafted images of themselves displaying inauthentic relationships.
The media seems to have loved this drama even with most of it all being alleged and not confirmed. Many people have commented on the very close parallels between Nicola Peltz and Meghan Markle. We will just have to wait and see what is in store for Nicola, but we might just end up with a canceled Netflix reality T.V. show called, “With Love, Nicola.”
