Imagine walking during a parade, holding a pipe, snare drum, tenor drum, or even a bass drum—the crowd cheering, unique music ringing through your ears, and everyone in awe with your skills. How excited would that make you feel?
If the experiences listed above excite you, joining the Syracuse Highland Pipe Band could be the perfect fit for you! This family-friendly Scottish band aims to preserve and share rich Celtic heritage and culture through exceptional piping, drumming and Celtic entertainment in the Central New York area. The band participates in multiple local events year round for everyone to be immersed in such beautiful music.
As this band is involved with multiple community events, it serves as a wonderful opportunity for high school students to not only learn something, but it also gives you an opportunity to gain community service hours. Currently, the band is welcoming new students, regardless of musical ability! They offer free lessons in piping and drumming! But, if you’re not interested in learning how to play an instrument, they are also in need of flag and banner carriers!
I serve as a tenor drummer in the Highland Pipe Band. I am the youngest member and highly encourage more students to join this fantastic group. It has given me the opportunity to learn many new skills and develop wonderful friendships.
