You recently may have heard a rumor about Taco Bell coming to Manlius, but last month you were brought to tears after hearing that the Manlius Village Board rejected the proposed idea (ok, that might be an exaggeration). The good news is that one board member was absent from that vote, and now the idea has been voted in favor 3-2. The Hospitality Restaurant Group (HRG) can now submit plans for the construction of Taco Bell in the old Manlius firehouse on Stickley Drive.
WSYR-TV reported that the decision has been made not to tear down the firehouse and the restaurant will instead utilize the large space for a live music stage and a second floor community room. However, this site will not be your ordinary Taco Bell; it is officially known as a Taco Bell Cantina. The Cantina concept was introduced in 2015 as Taco Bell’s attempt to reach new audiences and expand its influence. So what is the difference, you may ask? Taco Bell Cantina restaurants are essentially an elevated version of the original restaurant, combining an urban look with an open kitchen, a bar, and a special menu. And don’t be afraid, this location will still serve all your classic Taco Bell items.
These plans are not final, as the concept is just in its beginning stages. But once it opens, this Taco Bell Cantina is sure to be a favorite location for many Manlius residents, or at least for hungry FM students after school.
