Although water and flames don’t go together, the girls swimming and diving team here at FM is really bringing the heat all throughout Section 3 and even at the state level.
The rivalry between FM and Liverpool is no joke for the team. This year the battle ended in a 95-91 victory for FM. It wasn’t an easy feat, but the team stuck together and made something amazing happen.
Leading into sectionals the team had a 5-1 record within their league, that one loss being Baldwinsville. Divers Keegan Nicolette (4th place) and Eliza Hansen (5th place) set the team up with a fighting chance to dominate the Class A, Section 3 championship.
All 19 of the qualifying athletes had great performances, but there are some that were exceptional. Senior Elise Wratney qualified for the state championship in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.39. Freshman Emme Prendergast also conquered the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.83.
The team ended up taking the second-place spot and won’t give up trying to regain the sectional crown and many are continuing to work hard in the off season.
In the meantime the boys’ swim and dive team are fired up to be back-to-back sectional championships as well as fighting for the win at state qualifiers. Come show your Hornet Pride and cheer on the team! Here’s the schedule for the boys, Boys swim/dive schedule Go Hornets!
