One of the newest clubs at Fayetteville-Manlius High School is Book People. This group meets every other Thursday (every fortnight) in Mrs. Halloran’s room, 1202. During club meetings, members engage in laid-back discussion about a book’s plot, themes, and any other noticings. Currently, the group is reading The God of the Woods by Liz Moore. Students will then attend the author talk on Tuesday, November 25th in order to get more insight on the processes behind creating the story.
Without a doubt, the new club seemed to have hit the spot for a number of students that were craving a space to read in a less formal setting. Abbey Yahi, a new member, stated, “It’s nice to talk about books the way you want with people who actually want to talk about it.” That said, this space is uniquely different from your typical English class, but is still a perfect choice for those who want to dive into an intriguing story.
Club Treasurer Tabitha Stechschulte said she was quite glad she helped start the club: “It’s a bit difficult to start a book, but now I’m reminded why I love it so much!”
Ruby Gabriel echoed a similar sentiment saying, “I love how it allows me to section off times of my day to dedicate to reading, and how in depth our conversations go. It’s hard to find time to read nowadays, but this club is a perfect opportunity to get back into it.”
Club advisor Mrs. Halloran, expressed that she really enjoys the club, “It fills me with joy to see students who want to read, who choose to use their time to read and talk together. These students give me hope!”
So, if you are looking for a chill, laid-back space to read, feel free to check out the Book People. Chances are, it could be the club for you.
