On Tuesday night, Fayetteville-Manlius and Cicero-North Syracuse played their yearly Pink the Rink game at Twin Rinks in Fayetteville-Manlius. The Hornets were able to defeat the Northstars in a close 5-4 game. Many excited fans watched the game play out, and the event’s success greatly helped the Carol Baldwin Foundation which helps fund important breast cancer research. The Hornets wore their vibrantly energetic pink jerseys while the exceptionally enthusiastic fans packed the stands wearing pink T-shirts. The shirts were sold, and worn, to honor the memory of Nancy Chase, a deeply beloved hockey mom who died of breast cancer. Anthony Angelo and Eric Hamilton initiated the game with the puck drop; they did this twice before the game to honor the game’s cause.
The game became exciting to watch, but also was an important event for reasons other than hockey. After the game had ended, both teams enjoyed a pizza party. The party was held to show the importance of community, sportsmanship, and also point out the importance of support for a worthy cause.
