Summer in CNY can get pretty miserable, which is why so many people find themselves looking forward to fall. It offers a hope to the end of the heat and humidity and the promise of some tasty fall treats. With the heat reaching 96.6 degrees at one point this summer, people were looking forward to the cooler weather only to be surprised with another heat wave in October. As one Fayetteville resident said, “It’s October, I shouldn’t be wearing shorts.”
In years past, students have shown up back to school in jeans and a sweater and continued to wear that into the winter, but due to the heat wave, people had to break out their summer clothes again to face the heat.
“House 2 can get really hot; I’m literally wearing shorts, so I don’t over heat when I’m there.” But it seems that in a split second the weather can change as New York and Pennsylvania now have the cool temperatures. On Sunday October 5th the high for the day was 87 degrees but in just 4 days the temperature had dropped all the way to 54. Shocking the residents and everyone just wanting fall.
But even people’s favorite season has downsides as Meghan Groshans said, “It’s cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon. I want to be able to wear jeans and a sweater all day without having to worry about it being too hot later in the day!” Skylar said, “As long as you can wear a sweater, it’s good weather.”
There are many awesome fall traditions that people look forward to from watching football, watching fun movies, going apple picking, pumpkin carving, or finding the crunchiest leaf. Fall seems to have something for everyone. Especially the treats–Meghan’s favorite is apple pie with vanilla ice cream. Lydia Radley said, “I LOVE chocolate chip pumpkin bread,” illuminating the range of many kinds of fall treats available.
Another favorite fall tradition from people is getting their fall drinks, this has sparked some debate though on whether Starbucks or Dunkin serves the better fall treats. Starbucks seems to have some fans as Skylar Brenner said that her favorite drink is the white hot chocolate and Lydia’s is the pumpkin spice from Starbucks, either iced or warm. Perhaps because of Starbucks’ more extensive menu with more flavors that appeal to a larger audience, it might be the more popular chain during the fall.
The weather is turning quickly and more leaves are falling. It keeps getting colder and closer to winter, so enjoy the fall weather and the festivities until the snow arrives.
