“To be an artist is to believe in life.”
–Henry Moore
Imagine each of your limbs, each finger, as individual entities. Now let them sit in your mind as they slowly magnetize towards each other, becoming the building blocks of one collective body. Your body. This is exactly what the FM student body has accomplished during this year’s art show.
Closing the 2024-2025 school year, the annual spring art show aims to highlight FM’s student artwork. The week before, pieces were put up one by one, slowly filling up the hallways with colorful creations. Students in grades 9th through 12th displayed what they worked on in class, and additionally, some chose to accompany the visuals with artistic statements. The words were nothing short of expressive themselves, and provided a documentation of the process. Nothing short of amazing, a vast range of mediums were utilized. From acrylic paint to stop motion animation, the creativity of these students is truly unlimited.
Ceramics and photography teacher Natalie Reed commented about student artists displaying their personalities and skills, “It was really cool to see FM perspective within this building, and what they were focusing on.” Each student took ownership of their individual artistic talents and stories, as they applied what they saw, heard, and experienced to their art. Special recognition was given to all artists in the National Art Honor Society, as well as the Gold Key winners of Scholastic’s National Arts competition.
The LMC housed the senior showcase: a collection of portfolios created by those who will be leaving FM at the end of this school year. The caption for this year’s showcase was,
“This catalog is dedicated to all the artists that kept making even though their artwork was not highly honored, won any awards, or had their classmates in awe of their work. But, they kept making art because they had a goal to get better. This one goes out to that kid.”
FM’s seniors have truly outdone themselves with exceptional works discussing everything from the British rock band, The Cure, to the science behind time. This showcase has been a time capsule of art, as well as a heartfelt farewell to our soon-to-be graduates.
By adorning our building with craft and technique, our artists are keeping school spirit alive by spreading a warm message: This is us.
