What’s the buzz with The Buzz?

Have you ever wanted to know what’s the consensus on the latest blockbuster movie? Have you ever just wanted to check the score from your favorite school sports game? Or, have you ever wondered what goes behind the production of those amazing print editions around your classrooms? If so, The Buzz is just that and so much more. From crossword puzzles to album reviews, The Buzz is not only the heart for the community’s latest news but also provides entertainment value and in depth perspectives like no other. Don’t worry if you missed the application deadline– there are still so many opportunities to join in the publication process of The Buzz!

So why should people join The Buzz? It is a great platform to share new stories, promote school activities, and pretty much write about whatever topic is relevant (after approval, of course)! Meetings normally occur every other week on Thursdays, where members brainstorm articles and plan for future editions. This is a welcoming community for any idea that comes through. Articles topics can span from school achievements to any breaking news stories around the world. 

Additionally, contributions to The Buzz are not just limited to writing articles. Have any pictures from the latest lacrosse game? Submit them to The Buzz for any potential articles! Want to make a crossword puzzle or comic strip? The Buzz is the perfect environment for such creations. 

The Buzz is also frequently recognized for its work and prestige at the annual ESSPA conference, winning Best Overall Newspaper this past year. Joining the publication is a great way to start your path in journalism, and members are able to construct a portfolio of articles under their own profile page. 

If you are interested, The Buzz has a home outside of its print editions– make sure to visit thefmbuzz.org or download the app called Student News Source for further content and get notifications each time an article is published. Feel free to stop by room 1107 to see Mr. DeForest with any questions. Or ask your favorite Buzz staff member.  New members are welcome at any time!

Ethan Wong is a junior at Fayetteville-Manlius High School. This is his third year as a member of The Buzz, and he currently serves as Features Editor. He is co-president of AAPI Heritage Club, a competitor in Programming Club and Math League, vice president of Spanish Club, and an avid volleyball player on the varsity team. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, working out, volunteering, and playing the piano.
