“For every child,” the motto of UNICEF is now represented by the new UNICEF Club at Fayetteville-Manlius High School. The club’s mission is to give back to kids who have had fewer resources and opportunities in life. They plan on accomplishing this through meetings and events such as fundraisers.
Each month, UNICEF provides clubs across the country with a theme to center their meetings on. This March (2025), the theme is “resources.” This theme encompasses topics such as food, water, and electricity.
UNICEF club was founded just this year by junior Jasmine Kobayashi. She was inspired to create it as a way to give back to children, both locally and globally. With her background in tutoring and volunteering, Jasmine has always loved working with kids. Cognizant of the struggles faced by kids living in poverty or conflict, she felt compelled to raise awareness for them. Jasmine encourages students to join the club as it is not only fun and creative, but is an opportunity to join a larger cause.
At the second meeting, the following club officers were introduced: Jasmine Kobayashi, Surin Bong, Serena Wan, Ayesha Rehman, Anqi Geng, Iggie Olson, and Lily Zhou. Meetings will be held on select Wednesdays (with some exceptions), a few times a month. Specific dates will be posted on the Google Classroom and school announcements.
Everyone is welcome to join UNICEF club, even if you can’t come every time! Come see what this club is all about at their next meeting on Tuesday, March 18th in Mrs. Hance’s room. They will be making soap bars to sell at an upcoming fundraiser! Remember, it’s “for every child!”
