With the holidays approaching and the start of the weekend almost here, people are undoubtedly counting the days until school’s out for the year 2024. Here is a list of activities that will be sure to make you burst with holiday cheer.
Ice Skating
Skating is the perfect social activity to do in the winter. Even for those that aren’t great at it, it’s a sport for which the joy comes from spending time with friends. The city of Syracuse runs three public ice-skating rinks: Clinton Square Ice Rink, the John Dunn Ice Rink, and the Sunnycrest Rink. Admission for adults between 13 and 54 years old costs five dollars per person and skate rentals are five dollars a pair as well. Information and locations can be found on the City of Syracuse’s website. Stay safe!
Hot Cocoa and Movie Marathon
The best way to relax amidst the blistering winter cold is to stay inside and make some hot cocoa while binging holiday classics. Some all-time favorites include Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Elf.
Bake Holiday Cookies
Another activity to do while staying inside is baking some holiday-themed cookies with your friends. Go crazy decorating them with some holiday-themed frosting and sprinkles!
Watch a Nutcracker Ballet
Many performances of the Nutcracker can be seen throughout the city. A major performance hosted by the Syracuse City Ballet will be held at the Oncenter from December 6th to 8th. Tickets are available to be purchased on the Oncenter’s official website. Local dance studios also host shows of the Nutcracker, where many students from the high school perform as well. This is the perfect way to reminisce in the nostalgia of the Nutcracker, while also supporting fellow students.
Lights on the Lake
Onondaga County’s 34th Annual Lights on the Lake will be available to drive through until January 13 from 5 PM to 10 PM. It features a two-mile-long road adorned with light displays and holiday villages. Tickets must be purchased online at lightsonthelake.com, costing $10 Monday through Thursday, and $20 Friday through Sunday.
