F.A.M.E. Club got its start with 2 juniors last year that wanted to take a fashion class but couldn’t fit it in their schedule. They went to Ms. Angelastro and asked her if they could start a club so they could do what they love and have time to do all their other classes. With a new year comes a whole new house from a new president, vice president to many more to make the F.A.M.E. club alive.
F.A.M.E. stands for fashion, altering, modeling, and eco-friendly. The group will learn how to do many things from learning how to alter your clothes to learning how to draw designs of dresses or other clothes. Ms. Angelastro explained the philosophy, “You may not have to go into fashion for their full-blown career, but still have an interest in styling or drawing.” This club isn’t just a club where you have to be so good at knowing how to make clothes and do that but it is also for things small that are important to know in life. “Everyone should learn how to sew a button back on to their shirt or take in their jeans a little.”
Ms. Angelastro explained that she is just the supervisor, and the kids are all in charge of everything else. “Sometimes they will choose a topic they want to learn about, and I will know that topic, so I will teach them how to do the specific thing they want to learn at that time.” The goal is to make any clothes or items that they make and show it off in the fashion show that they have at the end of the year. “The fashion show is at the end of the school year and it’s where anyone who wants to make something and have it displayed at the fashion show.” For the show you can show off anything you want. It goes from just a bag or a top to a full outfit that you can wear. “It’s very optional. If people in the club make something for themselves but don’t necessarily wear it on stage, they can give it to someone else so they can present it and then the maker can get it back.” Students will get really creative and use art materials for whatever they are designing. “One year someone took a deck of cards and turned it into a corset.” Ideas and possibilities are endless.
Claire Bingham only started a year ago and now she is the president. Fashion is a big thing for her. “I plan on going into cosmic design and I am taking a fashion design class later this year.”
This club is a great way for people to do things they love while also not having time in their schedule for it. Every week they will try and have a workshop day and that is where they will meet up and will learn how to draw designs, use the machines correctly, learn how to alter clothing, pattern making, and a modeling class. This club is very lenient. You can choose when you want to show up or how long you are going to take on your project or even on what you make.
The main thing is to just show up. If you have any more questions or want more information, stop by Ms. Angelastro’s room in 1123.
