Students line up despite the raging winter blizzard outside to spend their Saturday night at the school’s annual winter formal dance. In contrast to the bleary, gray weather outside, the inside of the school is adorned with warm lights and colorful foods to lift the moods of the people attending the dance. Student council members had outdone themselves in organizing and decorating for the formal, spending countless weeks preparing for this event.
The decorations on the inside of the gymnasium were beautiful, with strings of lights hanging on the walls. There were two photo booths, one with a backdrop containing a white and silver balloon arch and another with twinkling fairy lights and balloons giving a winter wonderland aura to the whole setup. The photo booths had long lines, only slightly shortened by the additional booth as compared to the homecoming dance. Sophomore Arthur Souza commented, “My favorite thing about the winter formal was the photo booth because it was a place where I had fun taking pictures and saving memories in funny photos.”
The food also had an extraordinary spin to it. Freshman Mary Ottaviano said, “I enjoyed the candy bar and I loved the food, 10/10 would eat again, especially the cotton candy.” There were platters full of deserts, ranging from mini cupcakes to cookies, to brownies. Student council members at the candy station filled pouches full of customized candies and sweets ranging from Swedish Fish to Sour Patch Kids, to milk chocolate, and more! Blue cotton candy and buttery popcorn were also served, enhancing the dessert options of the night.
This dance was carried out in partnership with Dance Marathon, to help raise money for Camp Good Days, a getaway where children affected by cancer and sickle-cell anemia can feel like kids again. The MCs could be seen helping student council members with the decorations and serving food during the dance, promoting their dedication to raising money for children who deserve happy moments away at camp. The dance helped raise money for Camp Good Days and every contribution to the cause helps tremendously. The best way to support Dance Marathon and its cause is to fundraise and attend events such as these to give children the opportunity to experience joy in their lives away from the harsh realities of life.
