The 2023 year has been filled with many memories. From new assemblies to successful sports teams, reminiscing months is important to cherish accomplishments in the school’s history.
In the spring, the Asian-American Pacific Islander assembly was hosted at the school as a means of displaying the diverse cultures of various countries in Asia. The assembly consisted of written poetry and speaking, Chinese, Indian, and Korean dance groups, martial arts acts, and other displays of heritage.
Along the lines of assemblies, Pi Day was also a great assembly, with two Pi song performances, Family-feud, a Rubik’s cube contest, and the grand finale, a Pi-digit memorization contest. Dance Marathon raised 124K for Camp Good Days, a camp dedicated to sponsoring kids affected by cancer (sickle-cell anemia) to go to a getaway and feel like a child again.
The music department also made many achievements throughout the year. Showboat was another way to showcase the many talents of our school, ranging from songs to dances to even an incorporated improv show. The F-M musical, the Little Mermaid was an absolute hit. A show was sold out, the first one since F-M’s rendition of Shrek in 2014. The F-M music trip to Virginia also earned many plaques and trophies for Symphony and Concert/String Orchestra, Band, and Choir groups, labeling it as the ultimate “F-M sweep.”
Many clubs were accomplished throughout the year. At the very beginning of the year, the Model United Nations team hosted a CNYMUN conference, where MUN teams from around the state attended to talk about matters concerning the betterment of the world and society. The Science Olympiad team placed 1st at Regionals. The Robotics team earned a “judges choice award” at one of their regional tournaments, and made it to the semifinals in another competition out of at least 20 teams. The Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA) team attended a Spring Leadership Conference in which many members of the team medaled and qualified for an International Leadership Conference, hosted in Texas. Another popular club was the improv club, which had several performances throughout the year that parents and fellow students attended.
Regarding sports, throughout the year many teams have won sectional titles, including the girls’ varsity tennis team, girls’ track and field team, and girls’ swimming and diving team. At states, two boats from the girls’ varsity team and a boat from the boys’ varsity team won first place, further moving on to nationals.
Overall, the year ended off as a success for many teams, including those academic and athletic. It is with these positive memories that we move into a new and exciting upcoming year, one that will hopefully be as successful as the last.
