This year’s football season has had a very unusual outcome compared to previous years. From going to the Dome last year to not having a single win this year, many students have been left disappointed with the performance. Many wonder if there is even any hope for next season.
Despite the discouraging record put up by the team this year, the players are still staying positive about the overall trend of the team. When asked what they were the most proud of about the team this year, senior captain Joe Sullivan said “I think we’ve worked super hard and improved a lot.” Senior Jeremy Budgeon even goes as far as saying that he “doesn’t think our record accurately depicts how we are as a team… I would say I’m most proud of our perseverance.” Even though it isn’t prevalent on the field, the behind the scenes aspects of the team is steadily improving at a rate that deserves some applause.
The big question that many fans have been asking is what they can expect from the team in the years to come. In other words, what does the future of FM Football look like? Junior Jack Hearn leads the team as starting quarterback, and there are questions as to whether or not he will be able to bring the team far next year. Our two seniors seem to think so. Jeremy believes that “Our junior class is very strong and talented. With it being their senior year next year, they will definitely be even better than this year.” Joe also claims that “We have plenty of developing sophomores as well.” It’s safe to say that the team believes they’ll be much better next year than they were last year.
Even though the team hasn’t been able to put up numbers like they used to, that doesn’t mean that the team is bad in general. The seniors described the atmosphere as a lot of fun, a lot of team bonding and full of memories. They both mentioned the highlight of being able to bond with the team in activities outside of football. So if you’re interested in joining the team next year, there will definitely be a spot that fits right for you on the roster.
With the football season coming to an end, make sure you clear up space on your schedules for the sports going to sectionals and states, the rest of the Boys Volleyball season, and the upcoming winter sports. As for the football team, it’s honestly a toss up for how next season could go. It seems as though there is a positive future for the Hornets football team, one that unfortunately this year’s seniors will have to miss. But that’s what college football is for isn’t it?
